There’s good news for both owners and those thinking of buying Samsung’s Galaxy S8.

The flagship device appears to be getting a big update with Android Nougat 7.1 possibly about to make an appearance on Samsung’s smartphone.

The news of this update comes via Vodafone Australia who have recently published which phones are due for a software upgrade.

Android 7.1 appears to have been “submitted” for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ meaning that it’s possibly being tested by the operator.

Networks have to check that the latest Android updates are compatible with their service which is why many devices take such a long time to roll out software upgrades.

In fact, owners of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge had to wait almost a year to get the latest version of Nougat on their devices.

It’s currently unclear if the Nougat 7.1 update for the S8 will be limited to Australia but this upgrade has been rumoured for a while so it’s likely a worldwide rollout could be coming soon.

Android 7.1 includes a swathe of new features including a new Night Mode, App shortcuts and battery life improvements.

Samsung S8 fans have been waiting since April for Nougat 7.1 so this news is bound to be welcomed, although many may be disappointed that this isn’t the very latest version of the popular software.

Nougat 7.1.1 was unveiled in December last year with Google’s Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus Player, Pixel C all getting the upgrade first.

Along with the new version of Nougat there’s also good news for those who haven’t purchased an S8 yet.

Six months after launch prices are beginning to tumble with just announcing its offering £75 off the Galaxy S8.

The deal includes a whopping a 20GB for £39.99 with the upfront cost reduced to £25 via the deal.

Carphone Warehouse is also offering new owners of the S8 the chance to grab a free Samsung speaker worth £100 as part of their S8 deal.

The offer includes an S8 with 1GB of data and unlimited calls/texts for £37.99 per month with a £59.99 upfront cost.

If it’s a SIM-only deal you are after, Amazon is probably the best place to go as they are currently selling the S8 for £578.99 – saving over £100.

In other Samsung news there’s just a few weeks to go until the Galaxy Note 8 is revealed to the world.

This new phablet will be launched at a major Unpacked event in New York in August 23 with the device expected to feature a giant curved AMOLED display, dual-lens camera and updated S Pen.
